By now it’s old news that singer and actor Ariana Grande split with her husband of two years, Dalton Gomez. Of course, we hope they’ve left on amicable terms and all that. But news has already broke that Ariana Grande has a new boo and it’s her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater.
Now, I knew Slater looked a bit familiar, but I couldn’t quite figure out why. Actor Ethan Slater is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway show Wicked. His role in the movie is as Boq, a fellow student of the university Elphaba and miss Glinda (Galinda at the time) attend and a man also enamored by Glinda’s beauty and popularity.
After Glinda tricks him into taking Nessarose, Elphaba’s wheelchair bound sister, to a school dance, Nessarose becomes obsessed with the fact that she believes he’s the one, despite him constantly telling her throughout the play he’s just not interested like that. It’s one of the few, if not the only, poorly done plots in the Broadway show Wicked, but I digress.
Of course, through the internet (Twitter no less, despite the app slowly dying off and for good reason), told me who Ethan Slater is, and he’s none other than Spongebob Squarepants from the late Spongebob the Musical all the way back in 2017.
Naturally, it’s not so much the fact that he played Spongebob Squarepants that makes this so funny to me but mores o that the internet always has something to say, for better or for worse. This time, it’s for better and for comedic reasons, of course.
