Trans Actor Makes List of People’s Sexiest Man Alive for First Time

By Lori Perkins

Brian Michael Smith, and actor on 9-1-1: Lone Star, made history when he was named on People Magazine’s “sexiest men alive” list. As we know, this year, the Sexiest Man Alive 2021 was deemed to be Paul Rudd.

People also published a list of the 25 “Sexiest Men You Can Watch on TV Now” which included Smith at number 11, making him the first trans man to ever be placed on this list. Smith plays fireman Paul Strickland on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star.

“Well howdy, partner! The 9-1-1: Lone Star was one of People’s Ones to Watch in 2021 and we will definitely not have a hard time keeping an eye on him,” People wrote in its description of the actor.

Smith, who became the first Black trans man to be cast in a regular TV role in 2019, celebrated the “historic” and flattering news on his Instagram.

“I’ve been called many things, this is a first,” he wrote. “Incredibly honored to be included in this list with so many actors I admire.”
