Tonight marks the highly anticipated ( for me) premiere of The Golden Bachelorette, a twofer refreshing twist on the beloved dating franchise that has captured hearts for years (The Bachelor franchise usually features young contestants and men choosing women). This exciting take on their older peeps version (and that’s me!) of this rather tired series brings romance and adventure to a more mature audience, showcasing a bachelorette in her golden years, ready to find love once again.
We know the familiar Bachelor elements will be there - the picturesque landscapes and “perfect” date set ups, but this time The Golden Bachelorette features a cast of 24 60+ years-old charming suitors, all eager to win the affection of a bachelorette we already met on the previous installment of The Golden Bachelor, Joan Vassos, 61, who chose to leave before the final rose because her daughter was experiencing pretty strong post-partum depression. "My family will always be first," she said.. "Once you become a mom, you're always a mom, even when your kids are older. Nothing is more important."
The tall, blond widow is probably glad she didn’t actually fall for Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner, who ended up proposing to and marrying his Golden Bachelorette choice in a lavish TV wedding and a honeymoon in Italy, followed by a pretty rapid divorce three months later. Let’s hope she does better than him!
It’s on ABC at 8:00 p.m.
