This Wednesday, actor Noah Schnapp famous for his role as Will Byers on the Netflix hit-series Stranger Things, came out as gay in a TikTok posted on his account with the caption reading, “I’m guessing I’m more similar to Will than I thought.”
In Stranger Things, it’s been speculated since season one that Will Byers, known for being the kind, gentle one who just wants to hangout with his friends rather than getting kidnapped or possessed, has been theorized to be gay by fans of the show after following a trail of breadcrumbs hinting at the character’s attraction to his friend Mike.
When Season Three dropped and Will’s pining over Mike became increasingly obvious, fans of the show were worried the Duffer brothers were doing nothing but “Queerbaiting.” But given the setting of the season, the 80s, it was a lot more realistic for the character’s coming out, so to say, to be a lot more subtle and complex.
In Noah Schnapp’s TikTok the video reads, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared to come out of the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’”
