The famous Mean Girl star, Jonathan Bennett, who played the boy toy Aaron Samuels, is now engaged!

On Monday (November 30th) this week, James Vaughan, famous for his appearance on season 21 of The Amazing Race and coming in second place, proposed to Bennett with a song of his own. Vaughan got together with a friend to create a special song for his boyfriend, while Bennett was off filming The Christmas House in Canada for Hallmark. With just a guitar, a pick and an idea, Vaughan and his producer friend Tanzer crafted a song worthy enough to tell his boyfriend he wanted to be with him forever.

Vaughan hatched his plan when he told Bennett they were getting together with Jaymes’ photographer friend and photographer niece, Eric and Andrew. When they arrived, Bennett noticed no one was looking him in the eye. They later explained it was because they couldn’t look him in the eye and keep the secret.

Jonathan’s sister then asked him to step outside. When he stepped out into the backyard, there was Vaughan, standing there with a sign that read “We never did find our song, so I wrote it for you.” Bennett recalls to People Magazine, “that’s when I knew I was getting proposed to because it was the same type of sign he made when he told me he loved me for the first time.”

“It’s hard to describe what it feels like to have a song written about you that is so specific and that reassures all your insecurities. It was the best song I’ve ever heard.”

Jaymes later recalled in an Instagram post a day after ordering custom rings from Kay jewelers that Vaughan told the company to “create something not only for our special moment, but something other LGBTQ+ couples might be inspired by for their rings too.”

He writes in his post, “The ring serves two purposes. Engagement ring and wedding band. It is platinum with a brushed satin finish and on one side at the gallery (the top part of the ring) there are diamonds all the way around it. At the other end the gallery looks like a traditional wedding band. We both have one. So while we are engaged the diamonds face out so the world sees them. Then we get married we will flip the rings so the diamonds face us.”

The two had met in 2016 when Bennett was hosting for the Food Network cooking competition show Cake Wars, a reality competition series where bakers compete against one another by creating cakes. And then in 2017 the couple went public with their relationship with an adorable Instagram post.

“I love how I can be unapologetically myself and I love that [Jaymes Vaughan] loves me unconditionally for it,” Bennett told Daily News.
