The comedy writing team of Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, fresh off the successful release of Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, has announced that they have been signed up by Disney to write the backstory behind Cinderella’s stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella. Though Disney has not yet committed to having the two comedians star in the film (as they did in Barb and Star, and their other HUGE female comedy hit Bridesmaids), I think that’s a pretty good assumption on my part.

According to Deadline, the movie will be a live-action “fairy tale musical comedy” that spans “their early childhood through the marriage of their universally beloved sister and beyond” and explores the stepsisters’ “struggle to uphold their family’s legacy.”

This untitled re-imagined fairy tale continues Disney’s retelling of stories from the villains’’ POV such as the pair of Maleficent movies starring Angelina Jolie and the forthcoming Cruella starring Emma Stone. According to Deadline, the studio is also developing Gaston and LeFou, a Beauty and the Beast prequel TV series for Disney+ with Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprising their roles.

According to Variety, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum are producing the movie via Gloria Sanchez Productions.

Since this is a musical, I am sure the songs are going to be hysterical. Can’t wait, but there is no release date yet.
