In between the resurgence of Bennifer and the New York Post’s inability to recognize Leonardo DiCaprio in the new Martin Scorsese film, there was a Twitter outburst of faux outrage regarding old statements taken out of context from interviews by director/newly single Olivia Wilde.
The 37-year-old, who is dating former One Direction singer Harry Styles, has been slammed by Styles fans who have tried to take statements she made about “coming out” as a director (instead of her first role as an actress) as insensitive to the LGBTQ community. A second statement she made about her difficult divorce from her first husband where she thought she might give up on men and consider “a soft kind of lesbian relationship, just gentle kissing and scissoring” was taken as a tone deaf fantasy of a straight woman’s concept of a lesbian relationship.
But one astute Twitter follower summed it up with the following “Y’all had me thinking that Olivia Wilde was spewing slurs or something. This is literally the last thing that our community should be worrying about. Just.. ya know, educate her.”
