On Sunday, just in time for a perfect Mother’s Day gift, Samira Wiley, who plays Moira on The Handmaid’s Tale, announced the birth of their baby girl.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, her wife, Lauren Morelli, shared a picture of their daughter with a heartwarming caption revealing George’s birthday to followers.
“4 weeks ago today our daughter came into the world and changed everything. We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired. George Elizabeth, 4.11.21”
And then Samira Wiley, who met her wife while playing the role of Poussey Washington on Orange Is the New Black where Morelli was a writer, posted the same picture on Instagram with a different caption saying: “Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George.”
The couple had met on the set of Orange is The New Black when Lauren Morelli was still married and working as a writer on the Netflix show. At the time, Morelli noted that she had begun to question her sexuality. After separating from her husband, Morelli began her relationship with Samira and the two got engaged in 2016 and married in 2017.
