In an effort to attract new followers, many churches have entered into the new age with younger audience members in mind; revaluating how to make churches more inclusive, more inclusive messaging, and introducing ways religious text can be used for a progressive agenda.
Fort Washington Church in Washington Heights, New York, gets the progressive, modern message, dragging in new audiences through the digital field by holding mass in person and online, making church easily accessible to all who may wish to attend.
Tomorrow, you can join the church in celebration with their a Drag Christmas event with local queen Marge Johnson.
Marge Erin Johnson (she/they) is a preacher, activist, and drag theologian currently residing in Washington Heights. Originally a quarantine queen who showed off her makeup looks on Instagram, she is glad to join progressive and lefty faith communities living into the values of extravagant welcome and God’s radical love.
Marge believes that the joy of drag can reach the ends of the earth and that drag mixed with ritual unlocks the magic that helps us to reimagine what is possible. Marge is a graduate of Union Theological Seminary, and in her non-drag life, she serves as Digital Minister of Fort Washington Collegiate Church.
Join Marge for one of their digital events tomorrow, Sunday, December 5th at 11 am. Audience members are asked to wear their flashiest Christmas attire and/or ugliest Christmas sweater to recognize the theme of peace on the second Sunday of advent.
If you cannot join in person, we invite you to watch our livestream at 11:00 am on our website, YouTube, and Facebook.
