Company XIV Celebrates The Nutcracker Rouge’s 15th Anniversary

By David T. Valentin

Laced in elegance, dripped in extravaganza and dunked in luxury, Company XIV delivers its 15th anniversary show during this year’s Christmas season, and its just as good excessively fun as the years before!

Last year, I had the pleasure of attending The Nutcracker Rouge to be instantly swept off my feet. With dancing gingerbread, sexy pepper mint candy and a can-can orgy as the climax of the show, and so much more, The Nutcracker Rouge keeps audience members on its toes from beginning to end.

With the show already being a masterpiece of art by pushing what the human body can do through performers trapezing over audience head members and dancing on poles, to its almost time traveling capabilities to whisk you into a burlesque form of Louis XIV’s royal court, its hard to imagine how such a show can become even better.

But lo and behold, Company XIV pushes the boundaries of its own seemingly limitless potential yet again by combining the best of the best of their performers and their performances.

How did they do it?

“I really wanted this year’s production to feature the best of the best artists in their most iconic acts!” said founder and classically trained, nightlife impresario Austin McCormic. “I think we’ve succeeded in pulling out all the stops in delighting returning and new audiences with familiar icons and special surprises!”

As a second timer, I could certainly say it was the best of the best. Even when witnessing the spectacular performances I had the pleasure of seeing last year, I was once again instantly amazed and captivated all while the performances I hadn’t seen took hold of my senses.

A favorite of mine that I did not see last year were Ross Katen and Ross’s twin brother Nicholas Katen’s fantastic tap-dancing Banana Split routine, which almost seems to recreate the magic of silent, rubberhose cartoon animations of the 1920s and 1930s in real-time on stage that had my fiancé and I laughing from beginning to end.

For this year, I had the pleasure of sitting behind two women who mentioned to my fiancé and I that they see The Nutcracker Rouge every year as their holiday celebration. It was their fourth year attending the show and they were still clapping along and dancing in their seats—a clear testament to the brilliant fun Company XIV captivates in its shows night after night, year after year.

If there is one holiday tradition to keep every year, I would say it is to attend The Nutcracker Rouge.
