Smashwords, one of the largest digital distribution platforms, launched its seventh annual Read an Ebook sale/celebration this week, where thousands of indie and self-published titles are offered free to heavy discounted.
The event was started by writer and cover designer Rita Toews, who only started writing in her late 50’s. According to an interview in the Huffington Post, Canadian author Toews is the creator and chief ringmaster of Read an Ebook Week, this annual international celebration of ebooks that kicks off its seventh season today, March 5th.
Read an Ebook Week brings together ebook retailers, publishers, authors, device-makers and readers who join in this international literary event of ebook discovery, and hopefully newfound passions. It’s a great opportunity to try new writers.
According to an article from a Denver library, Spanish language books, magazines and audio books are also available for free this week through Overdrive.
If you would like to see what’s available on this sale this week, you can go to Smashwords Read an Ebook page or search the Twitter hashtag #ebookweek23.
The sale runs through March 11th.
