While the U.S. takes small steps in preventing the coronavirus through social distancing, it seems that many who are not living in the epicenter of the coronavirus, places like New York, California, and New Jersey, are not taking preventive measures seriously. It seems many are downplaying the severity of how contagious the disease really is.
Kevin Bacon an actor known for the hilarious theory of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” has come up with a thoughtful way to show his millions of fans why social distancing is important.
For those who are unfamiliar with the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” it follows the idea that “movie buffs challenge each other to find the shortest path between an arbitrary actor and prolific actor Kevin Bacon. It rests on the assumption that anyone involved in the Hollywood film industry can be linked through their film roles to Bacon within six steps.”
The actor wrote on his social media, “Hi, folks. You know me, right? I’m technically only six degrees away from you,” he said in a video posted across the different social platforms.
“Right now, like people around the world, I’m staying home, because it saves lives and it is the only way we’re going to slow down the spread of this coronavirus. Because the contact that you make with someone, who makes contact with someone else, that may be what makes somebody’s mom or grandpa or wife sick.”
Through the hashtag #IStayHomeFor, Bacon hopes to inform people of the importance of social distancing not just for yourself, but for others. So when you’re bored in your house, aching to leave, think of someone you love who may be at risk.
Or you can just do what american comedian Paul F. Tompkins does.
